Deep Clean Day UGH!

We are in deep clean mode here.  After a couple years of surgeries and various health issues that have have hampered us in our physical comfort and abilities, admittedly things have gotten away from us.  I worked on the shower in our bathroom.  That is probably the most neglected of the things we are addressing today.  It's harder to clean as it requires some bending, stooping and kneeling that we weren't really able to do.  So I have been in there trying to get it back to manageable.  However I think I need to have the Stanley Steamer guys out to give it and the entire bathroom the once over.  With our super hard water and lack of attention it just needs someone with better tools than we have.  'K' is working on the floors.  I usually do that but she wanted to do more than vacuum/sweep.  We have laminated wood floors and they will get a shine put on them too.  What am I doing sitting here and not working?  Taking a break lol?  Well it is almost lunch time.

In the future, like this Spring or Summer I plan on tearing into my man cave.  I want to get rid of a lot of junk including this big computer desk I sit at.  It collects to much crap with all the space it has and I really don't need it anymore since I am spending less and less time on the PC.  Then I'll rip out the carpet, paint the walls and put some new flooring in.  This will require moving everything in the room so that will help me get motivated to throw stuff out and not bring it back in.  I will need to find a smaller used desk so I don't spend much.  I will also get around to reorganizing my leather work center that's in the same room and is always a mess.  Sounds ambitious and as I write this I get a little feeling of being overwhelmed.  I will try to take my time so my back and neck don't pay the price too much.  But I tend to get in a hurry and try to get it finished as fast as I can.  It's just the way I work.  One speed, full out.  But I need to temper that for sure.

'K' is really itching to get on the road.  Anywhere, it doesn't matter, just go.  We have been dealing with so much with family and our own health issues that she is just done with it.  Me?  I don't feel it like she is but I do want to get on the road too.  Where, no idea.  Grand Canyon area is the most likely destination.  We want to avoid the Spring Break crowd for sure and then there's weather...sounds like I am talking my way out of it doesn't it.

Our congregation is finally making some strides toward installing a security team and most of the plan I presented to the elders.  We had a congregational meeting and after explaining what we wanted to do we had a few more men step up to be added to the list.  That was encouraging.  Now we just need to work out some details and put it in action.  I'm glad it's moving forward.

OK I gotta get back to it, well lunch anyway.

BB Pistol with the Grands

The showing and teaching the older Grandkids about the use of firearms using the BB pistol went much better than expected.  In fact the older Granddaughter was more interested than I could have imagined.  I started out just one on one with the Grandson.  Being a boy I thought it would be a natural thing for us to bond over and have some fun.  He has never shot a BB gun and has never even been exposed to one as far as I know.  This was all new to him.  Started with the basic firearm safety and would grill him about it while we were shooting.  He had a little trouble remembering everything.  The gun was a little too big for his hands but he did pretty well.  It has a very long trigger pull so it made it pretty difficult to get the trigger back consistently.  We weren't worried too much about accuracy.  The BB's curve at times heading to the target so even hitting the paper can be an issue.  But he did pretty well.

It wasn't long before the Granddaughter came out.  She nailed the firearm rules every time surprising me.  She had much more difficulty with the trigger and getting it pulled back far enough to shoot.  She actually got sore red spots on her fingers before we were through.  On the third time through she was managing to get the trigger pulled without as much trouble.

We emptied a couple air cartridges and went in for lunch.  She wanted to know if we could shoot again the next day.  She sat down and wrote down the 3 basic rules along with other safety things I taught her i.e. trigger discipline and muzzle discipline.  Next morning bright and early she wanted to know if we could go shoot again.  Well OK.

Everything was pretty much the same as the previous day.  However I let them run the show themselves with me standing back on the patio.  Things were going well and I heard this loud farting noise.  Then the gun stopped shooting.  I assumed the air cartridge had a malfunction letting the air escape.  Nope.  This happened.

See that shiny sliver thing at the end of the muzzle?  That's the barrel.  It isn't supposed to be sticking out like that.  There are no screws for me to take the gun apart and attempt a repair.  I am not sure how they manage to even put it together without screws.  But here we are with a broken BB pistol that will go in the trash.  I will probably replace it with a cheaper model if I do.  This thing was virtually new as far as use is concerned but I have had it several years just stuck away in the closet.  I blamed the Granddaughter for farting and breaking my gun.  She just rolled her eyes and shook her head at me.

The good thing is, I planted the seed in a young mind about firearms and safety and she was very enthusiastic.  Something I can work with.  Win one for Poppy.

Teaching the Older Grands

The birthday party last Saturday went pretty well.  The 'Nugget' seemed to have a great time having all the focus on her.  Well, it's always focused on her.  but this time there were many more than just Nani and Poppy.  And I didn't eat too much.

We will head out shortly to pick up the two older Grands.  they will spend the night with us while their parents go to some concert.  I will head over to Academy and pick up some targets and replenish my 9 mm ammo.  I will try to teach them some basic handgun by using my air pistol.  Plus it gives me practice finding my sights, grip and stance.  I also want to practice sighting using both eyes.  I tried that at the range and stopped before I started.  I need practice drawing from a holster/concealed, especially since I will be part of our church security.  Using the air pistol will allow me to practice more often and not put it off until I get a rare range visit.  I also will re sight my pellet rifle.  I have been missing those pesky squirrels.  Hope the kids think it's fun and they gain a little knowledge about gun safety.  I am not sure they have ever been exposed to firearms.  They aren't too young being 10 and almost 13.

What I Have Been Up To

Obviously I have been away from the PC for an extended period.  I actually haven't thought about posting here other than a quick passing of thought about doing something, but you deserve better.  One of the reasons is due to my neck/back.  If I stay in front of it for an extended period I pay the price.  I am trying to give the work my chiropractor did a chance to work and heal before I mess it up again.  I cut the grass in the back yard Saturday and somehow it tweaked my lower back and I have been really hurting the last couple days.  Today I am much better but still taking it very easy.  Ice, heat, exercise and brace, repeat.  Oh and ibuprofen.

We have had the baby since Sunday night.  The people that live with her have come down with some sort of stomach bug that really knocked them down.  So far she has been spared from catching it.  But 'K' has come down with a cold while she is here and she will most likely get that with all the very close contact they have.  Hope not since we will have her 1st birthday party at our house this Saturday.

I don't remember if I mentioned this before and I am too lazy to look.  I have been trying to get our congregation to implement a security plan since September 2017 after an incident in Nashville by mentioning it to our elders.  There have others that have also.  They have addressed some things over that time but no actual security detail in place.  Just to get cut this short, since it was very long on the first time writing this and and some of my frustration showed.  I am working on a proposed plan and security team.  Yes, I am extremely aware of my limitations and '0' experience, but that is what we have to work with.  Pray for me.
