Only One More
Assuming all goes well at the Urologist's visit this Thursday, my last post will most likely be this next Monday. I have gotten a peak at the lab results and it's all good. So I should be released after 10 years of monitoring me for a return of my prostate cancer. One less doctor appointment to contend with every 6 months.
I have been busy with a few Honey Do items this morning and almost forgot to post. Actually they are things I have been trying to get to for a few weeks. My AC drain has to have a 'cage' to cover the opening. Why? The moisture tends to attract various critters that will crawl up there and get stuck and die. That has clogged it up a few times. When that happens the AC has a system that will shut itself down when water backs up. One time it was an epic effort to get it cleaned out. I assume it was a snake that had gotten stuck and died from what I could tell from the remains I got out of there. It took a couple hours of ramming a plumbing snake up that drain hose to clear it out. After that time I fashioned a protective cage with some hareware cloth and zip ties to cover the end. It worked great but it had deteriorated to the point I needed to replace it.
I also went around cleaning out the aereators on the faucets in the house. Our water is so hard it will clog those things up. If you wait too long to do it you may not be able to get them out. That has happened before and unfortunately it happened to one this time also. Sigh.
Not sure what to make of Biden dropping out. IMO he should never have been in office in the first place. It was obvious to me he had at least the start of dementia before he ran in 2020. Kamala? Are you kidding me? I am sure if she is the candidate she will expose her incompetance at some point, but will people listen? I can't fathom any leftist winning after what has happened the last 4 years, but then they got in in 2020 when there is no way they should have. I have no doubt they will try to do it again, they are more desperate this time.

Property Appraisal Protest
Monday morning I will be placing a call in to the Appraisal District for a formal protest of my home's appraisal. I made an online protest and they offered a lower amount that I was not happy with. So a formal protest is my alternate method offered. I think I have a good case but convincing others is the trick/key. I don't have to actually meet in person as I have in the past, we can do it via Zoom. Glad I won't have to drive into the city.
Tuesday the AC guys are rescheduled to return after not being able to make the first appointment. I hope we can get it done. The farther into the Summer we get the busier they get. If they get an emergency like they have on previous occasions I can get rescheduled several times before they actually show up. Over the years my appointments have moved from April to mid to late June.
Our dog Sickers has allergies that make him scratch a lot. We had gotten him injections that worked pretty well in the past. They are no longer effective and we have resorted to pills. They work OK but not near enough. I try to keep the grass shorter than usual too. His legs are so short he usually is dragging parts in the grass. Once July gets here it seems to get better until late fall and we have to go through that again for about six weeks. Our other dog, Maggie, will also get these same allergies but mostly in the fall. Poor Snickers will scratch raw spots on himself. Then at night, he sleeps in our bed, and he will wake you up with scratching sometimes. Poor little guy.
Wish me luck on our protest.

AC No Show
The AC guys had to reschedule due to wet weather delaying them at another loction so we set a date for 2 weeks away. I just hope they don't have to reschedule again for another two weeks away. It's happened before. It messes up your day when you are waiting on them so you can go on with other things and then they don't come. Ugh.
Quick visit with the Pain Doc last week. I have been doing pretty well and we agreed another ablation is not needed at this time but he did let me know we could do the steroid injection if I think I need it. I will check back in three months.
I have also been trying to get things squared away with my prescription insurance/Pharmacy. What a gigantic pain. My insurance rebids the contract every 6 years and when that happens some of the meds I have been on for years have to be changed to another brand etc. This time instead of telling me the available alternatives they want the doctor to prescribe the replacement. The doc does not know what my insurance covers but they won't tell me what is available (and it's no where online) so I can inform the doctor. They are hoping to force the doctor to call them. That just delays me getting meds for almost two weeks. Luckily I have enough on hand this time to get me through...so far. They have had this information since they bid the contract last year and had my records of all the meds yet they wait until I need a refill to let me know instead of making arrangements to get this settled ahead of time so I won't run out. Hair pulling to say the least.
I also got 'K's jalopy into the tire shop to get a vibration taken care of. It's better but still feel a slight virbration, althought it's better. Who knows, maybe the tire is out of round or we wore a spot in the tire from it being unbalanced. 'K' doesn't notice it, and didn't before either. I am leaning toward it being the roads being worse than they should be which is truly possible here. Road ride quality has really slipped since my days working in that field. No pride of ownership since the inspectors are all now contractors. What a scam.

Record Heat
Around Wednesday last week San Antonio recorded a record for heat index at 117*. Never before had we had anything that high. It is mostly due to the heavy humidity we are expriencing. At my place just north has only had a high of 97* (no idea what my heat index was) while SA has had several days exceeding 100*. That is unusual for June. It bodes a very warm Summer as some of the predicters have predicted. We certainly could use a break.
Today I have the AC guys out for a check up of our unit. Nothing is wrong, just want it checked out to avoid any future issues if I can. Thursday is a revisit with the Pain Management Doc. While I am not pain free completely I am much better than before. So I am guessing we will continue as is and use his services once the current procedure stops working.
Hopefully I can get started on re-painting the kitchen cabinets that the contractor messed up a few years ago. I will have to sand down to wood in much of the area needing paint that should have been done before it ever got any paint. I have learned much since then. The wrong paint was used and just because it says 'cabinet paint' on the can doesn't make it so. Also, when the contractor hands you his card with his name and company saying he is a paint contractor means little to nothing. While they may be able to spread paint around, the lack of attention to detail is very telling. It really shows up with our kitchen colors. I wouldn't have him back to even fix what he did. We didn't choose him. He was part of the crew that fixed the water damage job we had a few years ago, I had no real choice.

Under the Weather and Weather and Politics
I have been under the weather for much of the last week. Not sure what it is but it has all the symptoms of a cold. I haven't had a cold in forever and I don't remember any of them getting me down as bad as this one. But I am starting to feel better finally. And as most ladies know the dreaded Man Cold is almost always near fatal, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
The weather has been pretty oppresive with mid to upper 90's with 80% humidity. It feels like a hot wet blanket has been thrown on you when you walk outside. That along with me not feeling well has curtailed any outdoor activity. The pups really miss their mornimg walks. I hope this isn't an indication of another hotter than usual Summer after last year. But there are some weather types that know about things like that and are predicting another scorcher. How hot does it have to get to make Californians move someplace else? Just kidding.
I'm disgusted to say the least about what has and is happening to President Trump. Whether you like the man or not or disagree with him politically, what is happening to him is simply political persecution. The regime in power is out to make sure he doesn't become president again this coming November. There have been many before this that deserved to be indicted and convicted of their crimes yet no one bats an eye. So why this time? President Trump is a threat to their way getting rich and power. If you can't see what is happening and aren't at the least saddened there is not much hope for you. I have little to no faith in our elected representatives anymore. Few if any do anything of significance other than write a mean tweet or threaten to hold an investigation that has no teeth. They have been pretty useless on both sides of the aisle.

Another Short Update
It's been warm and wet here this past week. Temps near or in the 80's with 90% humidity. Ugh. That has ended any planned outdoor activity like my daily walk with the pups or the much needed cutting of the lawn. At least this will allow my ribs more rest-they still bug me and the weedeater will have to wait even longer. April and May are very humid and so is much of June. But it also can be a great time of year. Perspective.
I had a follow up with the pain management doc. We are both in agreement that things are not perfect but much better than they were. I am certainly sleeping better. He seems confident another ablation will work much better but we must wait at least until June, or longer if we can. So that is how we are approaching this, just try to go as long as I can without more treatment. He did bring up surgery but also said the surgeons he would send me to take the same approach. That's great, I will do all I can to avoid any surgery on my spine.
That's about all I have.

Quick Updates
Just a few quick updates. Saw the pain doc and he injected me with some more pain meds and it seemed to help. Although this past weekend there was a return of some pain. I am almost resigned to the fact this will be pretty muuch permanent at this point. I will meet with the cardiologist tomorrow morning to hear the results of my echo cardiogram. He has said he doesn't think there is anything to worry about. I'll be gald to get that behind me. On the doctor front that will be all until July thankfully.
Fiesta is over and we only had three deaths in the rat hole to the South of me. It doesn't happen every year but it's not unheard of. There is a big festival down at Market Square. A lot of folks show up down there but it includes a lot of gang presence and alcohol. It's in the middle of their territories. So it isn't unual to have fights at least that will turn into gunfire. Which it did the last weekend of Fiesta. Idiots. No idea why anyone would go there that isn't looking for trouble.
I guess I will cut the lawn today. I won't try the weedeater again yet. The ribs are still actiing up which is getting very tiresome. It hinders me from doing things I need to do and things I want to do. I may try to meet my Mom for lunch. 'K' plans to spend most of the day with her. I haven't seen her since Easter. I need to do better but it seems to work better for both of us. She is doing very well health wise and she seems happy (she says she is) thankfully.
That's pretty much my whole world these days

FIESTA!
Fiesta starts this Thursday in San Antonio. I don't do Fiesta anymore. It gets way too crowded and parking is impossible to find, but if you do luck out and find a place in a lot, be ready to shell out big $$. I haven't been in over 20 years. The last time I did that was when I marched in the vangaurd as a Confederate Soldier. That was back when it wasn't politically incorrect to portray one. I was part of a group that did living history and we were tasked with being in the Fiesta Flambeau parade. If your not familiar with the Flambeau it is the huge night parade that signifies the end of Fiesta. I couldn't pass that up plus it was good exposure for our small group. Back then, they said it drew over 300,000 people downtown to watch it. Talk about your parking nightmare. I'm sure the numbers are much higher now. When I was a kid you could just drive down there and walk to a spot along the route and set up your lawn chairs and watch a great parade. Not anymore. If you want to watch it live, you have to pay for a seat well in advance. It was pretty warm that evening I marched. Had some major trouble with the heat and was stumbling by the time we got to the end. Those wool uniforms were very good at causing you to overheat.
Met with the Pain doc and he wants to shoot me with another steroid shot. I will take him up on that. He thinks there is a possibility that my fall that broke all those ribs might have affected the work he did prior. He says the next abalation will work better and hopefully longer but he can't perform it until we are six months out. I am a leaning toward another try with that then.
We have been trying to catch up on some of the yard work. Both of us are not getting much done due to our various ailments. But it's getting done. WE are just too much DIYer's to give up yet.

Easter Weekend
I hope everyone had a great Easter. Ours went well. Glad it's over. Doing all that cooking and getting ready was a chore this time. Too many aches and pains and all that work tends to aggravate it. We need to find an easier solution. I'm afraid the solution would be to not have it here, which I don't like at all. I think we should turn it into a pot luck deal. I'm just afraid we would wind up with no meats or pasta lol. The baby back ribs turned out pretty well it seems. Everyone said they liked them. IMO they were just OK. They were a little dry to me but much meatier. To little fat, I think, to keep them as moist as they should have been. I am my harshest critic in what I turn out from my BBQ pit. I can't seem to just enjoy it, I am always evaluating what went wrong and what I could do better.
Mom did come to our Easter lunch. We picked her up on our way from church. She lost track of time and when I called to tell her we would be there in 20 minutes she freaked out lol. But she somehow managed to get almost ready by the time we got there. She had a pretty good grasp of her faculties and we had a good visit.
I will be heading out to get my crown installed this morning. Yes, they are making me King. Then the day is free if I ignore all the things I need to do out in the yard. I am so far behind due to being inoperative from my ribs it has become daunting. But I am determined to get it done myself and not have to hire someone. Along with my low stamina and the ribs letting me know they don't like what I am doing, and my neck abaltion has apparently failed it has becomemuch more challenging. That is very disappointing. It was supposed to last one to two years and it's not quite three months. But it is certain I won't go through that again with such a short time of relief.
I'm off to cook breakfast.

Over Worked and a Few Other Things.
We got the two bedrooms swapped around by the time the new bed arrived Friday. 'K' did most of it due to me still not being able to get much done due to my rib injury. However I had to step in Thursday and Friday to move a few things. One being taking down our old bed and moving it to the other room. We set itup the next day to spit up the burden. Today I am paying the price even though it wasn't that big of job.
Part of the package of our new bed purchase included set up. I can't tell you how much I am glad it did. That bed is super heavy. We got a bed with a mototized frame in order to raise the head. Now that we are getting so much older we will be needing that. And I have needed that already with my injury.
This bed is pretty cool. It's a Smart Bed. We can adjust the firmness and it keeps track of how you sleep and sends that info to an app on your phone. It can tell when you wake up and are restless and when you get out of bed. I asked if they installed cameras to be able to tell that. They thought it funnier than it sounds here. And when you get out of bed it has a motion detector that turns on an LED light under the bed. That light is really helpful in our super dark room. It stays on until you get back in bed. Oh and none of that is free. It's a Sleep Number brand, it's what we had and moved to the other room. There should be less adjustment to a new bed than there was last time. First night wasn't what I had hoped for.
We met up at our favorite taco shop Saturday morning with an old friend that now lives in Amarillo. Spent a couple hours catching up and getting to know her new husband. It appears they are well matched. She deserves it. It was very emotional for her and 'K.' It was a great visit.
I am back on duty at church. I am not sure I remember if I mentioned what I do there every Sunday. Suffice it to say, I am a 'Greeter.' Standing and moving around for three hours amd opening doors for everyone can be hard for an old man with messed up ribs. I have eased back into it gradually. Last Sunday we had a young man or older teen riding a bicycle through our parking lot taking photos of the church and of our sign with times on it. I got hyper alert and alerted the others due to all the attacks on churches, and a couple recently. The way he was dressed, especially his 'head cover' and other things made my alarm bells go off. I challenged him, he didn't answer and rode off a little faster. I wasn't the only one that noticed. Nothing we could really do since he broke no laws. But that wasn't enough for one lady. Me telling her we were aware didn't phase her. She needed to tell everyone on the team what she saw and how creepy it was. Who else she told I don't know. Bothering our PD would not be fruitful. We don't want to worry a lot of people needlessly but I can sympathise with her. Needless to say I will be even more alert in the near future.

More Doctors, More Honey Do's and more
During my hospital stay back in January the attending physician was concerned about a heart murmur. I have known about it since 1996 when they discovered I had diabetes. The cardiologist at the time said it was so small that my primary care physicians probably could not hear it. So I never worried about it nor did any of my other doctors. Apparently it has gotten bigger/louder. So, Tuesday I have an appointment with a cardiologist, supposedly to get some sort of test to detemine which valve it is. My primary care doctor wasn't worried about it but agreed to refer me. Last Monday I got a random message about my blood pressure from my primary. What? I don't really check it much as it is usually rather low normal. My pressure reading were pretty high with those requested checks, nothing dangerous but high none the less. So, now I expect the cardiologist will run more tests etc.
We, (K mostly) is preparing for a new bed we bought. This will entail getting rid of one and moving another into the other room. It will move into 'K's' craft room. It's full of her stuff. This is an opprtune time to remove the carpet and replace it with flooring we have installed ourselves in two other rooms. Plus the moving of all her junk and 5 plus book cases out of and back in the smallest room we have. Well I am not able at this time in my reovery to lift and move furniture or get on my knees and install flooring. She is working at getting things sorted. But the flooring will have to wait and get it done a piece at a time. I won't bore you with the 'how' we have agreed on. It's going to be a 'fun' time I'm sure.
Snickers is doing great it seems and doesn't seem to have any effects from the meds he is taking. We will take him in for monthly blood tests on his liver to see how it is healing and adjustment of meds. I am not sure if the blood tests will ease over time or if this is a monthly thing long term...$$
OK, this is getting long so I will shut up now
